Mission Statement of the IFBA

"To serve as a common ground for Fire Buffs, active in promoting the general welfare of Fire Departments, allied emergency services, their officers and members."

Over the years fire buffs have been referred to as Dings, Fire Chasers and in most cases the person has a true dedication to the fire service. Fire buffs come from all walks of life and from many different types of careers.  Firefighters, Police Officers, Public Safety Dispatcher, Accountants and numerous other types of professions.

The buffs are young and old, male and female and all are drawn to the excitement of watching the Firefighters fight fires and rescue victims. Some of these buffs have jobs related to the excitement like News Reporters or Firefighter and others wishing to be a firefighter but not able to secure a position follow their favorite Engine or Ladder Co. like a Idol fan.

These individuals are also drawn to the brotherhood of the fire service and assist when needed or just hang out at the local station. Many sit in parking lots waiting for the calls to come in and follow the trucks to the scenes. When on scene the Firefighters from these departments know the individuals like family. as with many families meals are shared and stories are exchanged from the old days when fires were more prevalent. But with fire prevention, fire codes and economic development the responses have diminished and the fire buffs major role now is to preserve the history of the fire service.

Organizations like the IFBA- International Fire Buff Association promote clubs to provide canteen services, rehabs and other behind the scenes activities to help support your local fire department.

Sharing photos and videos of incidents the buff remains one of the true public relation tool for many fire departments and I am proud to say that I am a fire buff or Ding as some people call us.
